white supremacists try to destroy mlk
as we all know, monday is martin luther king jr.’s birthday. aside from the 3-day weekend, tons of school reports, and reenactments of his famous ‘i have a dream speech’, it’s also a time to reflect.
the fact of the matter remains that we ALL, young or old, black or white, professional or not, are where we are today in social acceptance, freedom, and happiness because of his brave vision.
it is in that sentiment that i found a surprising incident from internetnews.com. apparently, the google algorithm has been ‘exploited’ in such way that actually googling ‘martin luther king’ brings up the site martinlutherking.org. problem is, this is a white supremacist site defaming the saint and has hateful articles like ‘black invention myths’. the reason this site even appears is because many unsuspecting websites link to it thinking it actually is a tribute.
thus where ‘google bombing’ comes in. for those that have their own websites, read the internetnews.com article, link to this article, and link to all of the legitimate websites to mlk out there. in order for it to work properly, make sure your link tags have the title attribute of “martin luther king”. also, DO NOT link to martinlutherking.org, even if you are blogging about this story.
