Quantcast YBP Guide “I Have a Dream” Edition « Young Black Professional Guide

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. said these words in his speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963. Five years later he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee and today, January 15, 2007, we celebrate his life and dedication to racial equality and peace on Earth. His dream has lived on in all of us as we strive for better relations with one another.

YBP Guide has a dream of a brighter future for our children and accepts the great responsibility of fulfilling that dream. Our mission is to empower Young Black Professionals with the knowledge and inspiration to foster progression and productivity in the Black community. You are the future commmunity leaders, parents, educators, social service providers, and policy-makers and you are the role models for our youth. You must be empowered so that they can be empowered and live prosperous lives. We have a dream of eliminating the devastating disparities that African-Americans are faced with, and that dream stretches far and wide. We believe that we have a responsibility to our community to ensure that future YBPs do not get left behind. In the words of writer and activist Terry Tempest Williams, “The eyes of the future are looking back at us and they are praying for us to see beyond our own time.” Martin Luther King, Jr. and other activists who have passed are looking down on us as well, praying that we keep the dream alive.
