New BMW set to hit U.S. shores
Although already a commodity here in Europe, the BMW 1-series will be making its U.S. debut in 2008 aimed squarely at the award-winning VW GTI. Priced between the MINI and current generation 3-series, the 1-series is planned to have two versions, the 135i and 130. Options will include either a turbo-charged 4-cylinder or twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder.
Specifically significant to the current and newer classes of Young Black Professionals is the pricing of this new beemer. While undoubtedly having a name-brand, German vehicle as your first (or second) purchase to identify a sense of “I’ve made it”, the 1-series may fulfill that segment. Undoubtedly, many will criticize the hatchback look, but practicality looks to meet sophistication and performance in this upcoming 2-door. While large enough to seat a few friends for a nice evening out, it still is able to hold a few groceries on the way back to the loft. Definitely something to look out for.
