Postcards from Katrina
Postcards from Katrina, a grassroots movement, encourages students, youth, organizations and professionals who were affected by to share their stories in the shape of a postcard with poetry and art. Postcards from Katrina is a community arts project that uses the power of the arts to bring awareness that people in the Gulf Region still need help and hope. Also PfK recognizes art as a creative healing therapy and therapy can be seen as art to share to the world.
Also the project invites all people to share their stories via homemade postcards with original art, photos and poetry to have a voice on issues that matter to you like relationships, transportation, education, race, class, health, environment, and economics.
Here are a few quotes about getting hope by healing through art from Tambra Stevenson, Creator of Postcards from Katrina:
“Speak from your heart…do it through art.”
“When you swim the channel of faith into the sea of hope without hitting the rock of despair then you can reach the land of love.”
“PfK tries to capture hope from crisis, inspire change in our lives and communities, and express our stories through all forms of art and writing for our souls to heal and become whole.”
