‘the tribe’ put me onto a recent social survey and community project performed by university of chicago professors, grad students, and undergrad students called the black youth project.
This project will examine the attitudes, resources, and culture of African American youth ages 15 to 25, exploring how these factors and others influence their decision-making, norms, and behavior in critical domains such as sex, health, and politics.
of particular interest is the black youth project survey. the aim was to poll an often overlooked demographic, african-americans between 15 and 25 years of age, to get their opinions on topics that consistently place them in the cross-hairs of mainstream controversy: sex, race, political participation, gender and sexual orientation, rap music and videos, etc.
for those of you considering graduate education in the fields of psychology, adolescent behavior, african-american history, or political science, you can get a glimpse into the dissertations of other colleagues in the field, including hip hop and politics, political efficacy, and religion.
also: shouts to crystal ‘puff’ holmes and her role in the project, also a fellow washington university alum. be sure to check out her blog: General Musings from Generalists (although she’s mad bogus for picking Indy in the superbowl despite being from Chicago)

This is a great project and one I’d love to get involved with. Even though I’ll soon be out of the ’15-25 club’ I like what they’re doing for black youths and students.

Wow. Thanks for the shouts. We’re really proud of the project. And as far as the Bears, you know I got love for the hometown, and no disrespect to the defense, but I stand by what I said about QBs. It’s just Peyton’s turn.
