tech news 3/1: “yay for the redesign!” edition

if you can’t tell, i’m really excited about the new ybpguide.com redesign. i’ve been mulling over which blog editor to go with as well as the colors and layout i wanted. for all the readers that are using wordpress, we decided to go with the cutline 1.1 theme.

i also want to give a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to my sister lynsey who turned 18 yesterday. who’s proud? i’m proud. :-) Young Black Professional Guide google maps screenshot

on to the news…

one of my favorite applications, google maps, has rolled out a new feature highlighting the traffic conditions of major highways within the area you’re searching. even better, there is a google maps mobile application that can do the same thing!

adobe has announced that it will be offering its prized photoshop application online for free! personally, i think this is going to be huge. adobe is a monster in the applicationg community having contributed everything imageready, photoshop cs, and lifecycle generator. they also own flash and are THE standard in universal uneditable documents with their proprietary .pdf format. hopefully they’ll open up their api so that you can do a photoshop / amazon s3 / flickr mashup.

last, but not least, nickelodeon has released a youtube for kids hybrid called me:tv. although it’s well-known that the google vs. viacom showdown still lingers, the site aims to give kids a haven to publish creative content that could be aired on nickelodeon for all to enjoy. awww, nickelodeon. that brings me back (pete & pete, clarissa explains it all, and you can’t do that on television).
