Tuskegee Airmen Honored

Young Black Professional Guide to Tuskegee Airmen HonoredSix decades after completing their World War II mission and coming home to a country that discriminated against them because they were black, the Tuskegee Airmen are getting high honors from Congress.

That gratitude were expressed today when the legendary black aviators received a Congressional Gold Medal during a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda. The award is the most prestigious Congress can offer.

“It’s never too late for your country to say that you’ve done a great job for us.” -Ret. Col. Elmer D. Jones, Age 89

The recognition is long overdue, but the honorees take it in stride. I think it’s wonderful that these brave men are finally being given the highest honor and joining the many other African-Americans to receive a Congressional gold medal. Other African-American recipients include Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, the Little Rock Nine, Rosa Parks, Dorothy Height, and Colin Powell. 1. One corner of African American History that I will always be proud of.

  2. I actually got to sit & talk with them before they left ATL airport the morning they left for Washington. I was in total awe because they remind me so much of my Grandad whom made a sacrifice as such for his country, his recognition is long overdue too. I got photographs of a few of them (i was in tears most of the time because the energy of the moment was so drawing & powerful) AND I even got a photograph of the you Black pilot who was handpicked to fly them to Washington. I told him brother you truly are a descendant of the spirit that is th Tuskegee Airmen & I thanked him for his service & wished them well. It was a morning I will NEVER forget. Young sisters & Brothers, THESE are real heroes. NOT the atheletes & hip hop artists or other celebs we think so highly of. Read your history on them & then pass it on.
