find new things. stumble.

Young Black Professional Guide StumbleUponi found the coolest web application a few weeks ago and i can say that it’s one of the best out there.

it’s called stumbeupon.

it acts as a little button in your web browser that allows you to find cool websites that you might not necessarily find on your own based on the interests you fill out in your profile. what makes the application the best is that you can rate each website you find with a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ allowing more popular websites to to be stumbled.

as with most web apps, you create a profile with as much or as little information as you want.

i originally set my preferences for ‘hacking, electrical engineering, and african-americans’ and found all kinds of neat stuff. i stumbled across a site that details how to build a linux media center. i also found this article from a women who expounded about her experience regarding white privilege. interestingly, it was right on the heels of my post about affirmative action for whites. for those that are not sure, check out the ’suggested topics’.

when you stumbleupon something that someone else has rated, their username appears next to the ‘thumbs up’. you can add these users as your friends and stumble more things that they have stumbled (what a mouthful). be sure to add me!

stumbleupon only works as a firefox extension, so if you don’t have the browser (its free), go ahead and download it.
