Lessons from Mom

Young Black Professional Guide to Kimberly Michelle’s MomThanks to Garry for giving us great Mother’s Day gift ideas, but if you still can’t think of the perfect gift, why not try a little brainstorming session to get your creative juices flowing. Think about the lessons that you’ve learned from your mother. What has she taught you that has molded you into the Young Black Professional you are today? Perhaps there is something symbolic you can give her to show her that you’ve been listening to her advice over the years. You could even just spend time with your mom and reflect on all the life lessons you’ve learned from her. I guarantee she will appreciate it.

What did I learn from my mother? I learned to love my family unconditionally and to keep them as close to me as possible. My mother was the glue that kept her 9 brothers and sisters close together. She hosted family reunions, made frequent trips down to Tennessee, planned parties, and reached out via phone calls, letters, and greeting cards. Anything to keep her family communicating and close.

I only got to spend 15 years with my mother, but the lessons she taught me will stay with me forever. My gift to her is to keep my family close and bring them together as much as possible.

What lessons did you learn from your mom?

so true, the older I get the more I want to just have lunches and dinners with my parents like I do with my friends. I want to know what tv shows they watch and what music they listen to. I want to know who their friends are the way they used to want to know who our friends were before we could go to their house when they were kids. nothing gift can compare to knowing and sharing with the folks. Asking them what their childhoods were like. So much to know and learn.
