today is the anniversary of ‘d day’ where on june 6, 1944 americans fought with the world to liberate europe from nazi occupation in normandy. most of our generation is slanted on this significant sacrifice by our ancestors mainly in part to the media recreations of saving private ryan and medal of honor.

even so, the old addage remains: home of the free, because of the brave.

on to the news…

iphone drops june 29th Young Black Professional Guideif you haven’t heard, then you’re about to hear. the $600 apple iphone will be released into the wild, available for consumer madness june 29th via cingular (or the new at&t). after almost 3500+ diggs of the story, a few shots of the newest released iphone commercials, it seems only right to direct you to my favorite blog, engadget, for the full details. (via engadget)

just in case the madness wasn’t enough for you, it’s also being reported that the iphone is so special, that you won’t be able buy insurance from cingular. in order to ensure (get it?) your shiny, new tech crack pipe is covered, you’ll have to plunk down an additional $50+ from apple themselves. because the iphone is an ipod, internet device, and phone, this comes as a smaller surprise considering you pay a similar premium for the current gen video ipod. ampd mobile bankrupt Young Black Professional Guidekeeping along the ‘phone’ theme, techcrunch has reported that the overhyped amp’d mobile is filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. while it doesn’t bother me either way if amp’d fades away or not (i’m on sprint), the company is a posterchild for a lesson learned in not only the difficult market of mobile virtual network operators (companies that borrow verizon and sprint wireless networks), but also business mismanagement. if you thought paying your bills was rough, amp’d owes verizon $33 million, motorola $16 million, $10 million to Vivendi, and $8 million to Best Buy despite having raised $360 million and having over 220 thousand subscribers. wow, they suck.
