lewis hamilton. again.

lewis hamilton Young Black Professional Guidesomewhere, i found my inspiration to get back out on the golf course this past weekend. as a result of actually finding my swing and hitting a few straight and long on the driving range, my hands are a little sore. not exactly the healthiest thing when you work in IT and need to be on the computer, but i’ll make do. i guess the recent ‘coming up’ by blacks in new sports has inspired me try new things.

as pointed out by villager, lewis hamilton won again and is easily becoming the next icon of f1 racing. not only did he beat the rest of the field convincingly at indianapolis, he’s doing it as a rookie while making history. first rookie to [fill in accolade here]. first black to [fill in accolade]. the best part about lewis, however, is his humility. when asked if he was the ‘tiger woods of f1′, he said

I’m not Tiger. I’m just Lewis.

let’s not forget, this cat is only 22 years old, but has been racing for the extremely competitive mclaren team for 9 years. if we all passed 3rd grade, that means he’s been a professionally sponsored driver since he was 13.

wow. what were you doing at 13? ninja turtles, maybe?

so who has been his latest competition? actually, it’s been his teammate. while the media will undoubtedly try to latch on to the competitive friction between the two drivers, the reality is that two young athletes want to win. badly. the dynamics of today’s racing elements, including tires, track, speed, and pit stop strategy, favor a more patient and consistent driver than the previous style of aggressive driving. lewis happens to excel in that mold.

once again, ybp’s, we’re watching history continue to redefine itself. (via espn)

  2. Lewis has claimed pole position for his home Grand Prix in Britain tomorrow. He will have the support of 120000 Brits willing him to win. This bloke has the greatest ever start to a career in F1 and is well on the way to becoming a British and World motorsport LEGEND. C’mon folks support him, he proves that the nice guys can win.

    cheers
