‘kitler edition’ : tech news 6/20

kitlers cats that look like hitler google trendswow. if you ever needed proof that there are just a lot of dumb people in the world with nothing better to do, then check out the latest search term on google trends. as of this posting, the number two spot of all things searched in google in the united states is ‘cats that look like hitler’. for those that found this page actually looking for images of ‘kitlers’, check out the blog catsthatlooklikehitler.com.

and now, the news.

iphoneiphone madness is here…a good 9 days before the wallet-breaker actually drops. all of the tech blogs are obsessed with reporting on every new little feature and accessory that is supposed to accompany this thing. at one point, i could have sworn 20 or more websites (including cnn) were reporting that the iphone would now be sporting a glass face and 6-8 battery life.

wow. seriously? we’re breaking the front page to talk about a non-replaceable hot plate-of-a-battery?

even worse (worse b/c i dont like apple products), pc world did a survey that estimates that nearly 19 million americans are very interested in purchasing the iphone. if you don’t have apple stock, you need to sell your car and pick up as much of that mess as you possibly can. ebay will be selling this thing at $3,000 easily and steve jobs will be doing his best scrooge mcduck impression in his vault of cash before the 4th of july. if you’re on sprint (like me) and just have to have a new uber-phone, don’t miss my iphone alternatives post or the new sprint mogul. (review via gizmodo)

last, but not least, i blogged about high definition and hd dvd vs. blu-ray a long, long time ago. the biggest factor in the comparison was predicting which format would actually win the race to be the next ’standard’ in home media. well, blockbuster has decided to pick sides and gone with a ‘blu-ray only’ option in quite a few of their stores. the reason for the exclusivity was because management noticed that a lot of customers were choosing the format that had the most available movies. with popular disney films exclusively on blu-ray, customers are greeted with more options on the yellow-and-blue walls. the ‘built it and they will come’ concept has always been a no-brainer and hd dvd has been struggling.

so what does it mean to the ybp? basically, keep holding out just a little bit longer (holiday season) to upgrade your high-def player. if you had to pick one, you might want to consider blu-ray. (via cnn)
