Young Black Professional Guide to Savings Tip

  1. Heard about this campaign on my local college radio network. If we want to build up African American business and build more opportunity in our community, then we have to save. In 2005, the US had a negative real saving rate and we have had about a 2% of GDP saved in the years preceding that. That is the lowest rate of saving in the industrial world.

Buppies in their BMWs could trade down for a Toyota Camary and use the money to buy a CD at OneUnited.com. But of course, we need the wheels to impress the girls. Sigh.

  2. Thanks for referencing OneUnited.com. I had no idea what it was but I checked out the site and it looks like a really progressive move in the black community. For those who don’t know, One United is the first black internet bank. Check it out.
