If we want to build up African American business and build more opportunity in our community, then we have to save. In 2005, the US had a negative real saving rate and we have had about a 2% of GDP saved in the years preceding that. That is the lowest rate of saving in the industrial world. Buppies in their BMWs could trade down for a Toyota Camary and use the money to buy a CD at OneUnited.com. But of course, we need the wheels to impress the girls. Sigh.
