we’ve always made it a point here at ybpguide to bring our audience snippets of life that may not immediately yield itself through everyday experiences in an effort to make ourselves more well-rounded. not only did we highlight how to taste wine, we also followed it up with a spotlight on delicious wines from africa. today, we begin a journey down another unbeaten path: the independent film.
ybpguide.com has teamed up with imoovie.com to not only expose you to stunning independent films, but also bring you closer to up-and-coming filmmakers through a series of spotlights. this partnership not only fosters a sense of community between the two websites, but it expands the palette of both audiences with the content each site delivers.
Imoovie.com was founded to provide distribution for independent films.
Imoovie.com is committed to pursuing new and innovative approaches for distribution of independent films.
Not withstanding quality, we understand that the majority of independent films will not realize a theatrical release or be picked up by a mainstream distributor. This should not doom a film to financial failure.
Our mission is to turn a project of passion into a financial success. Filmmakers make the film and Imoovie.com does the rest.
Now independent filmmakers can find distribution for their films. Our distribution channels include our online store at www.Imoovie.com and partnerships for theatrical, cable, satellite, network TV, video-on-demand, downloads, Internet, rentals and home video/DVD.
Lovers of independent films can now go to one site to obtain information on independent film releases, film festivals, screenings and all things independent film.
Now, when you think independent movies, think Imoovie.
new to independent films?
i asked mike brown, the vp of imoovie.com based out in new york, which films he would recommend to first-time watchers. here are his recommendations:
- American Gun – Forest Whitaker – A powerful series of interwoven storylines that bring to light how the proliferation of guns in America dramatically affect and shape the every day lives of its citizens.
- The Story of Juan Bago – Michael Diaz – The Story of Juan Bago is a comical tale that follows Juan Bago, an underachiever that lives with his parents in Washington Heights, living a not so exciting life surrounded by people, family and friends who ridicule him.
- The Fountain – Hugh Jackman – Three parallel stories about love, death and spirituality as told through the odyssey taken on by one man in his thousand-year struggle to save the women he loves.
- The Last King of Scotland – Forest Whitaker – A Scottish doctor on a Ugandan medical mission becomes irreversibly entangled with one of the world’s most barbaric figures: Idi Amin.
- The F Word – Jed Weintrob – The F Word, Jed Weintrob’s second feature film, is a fiction/documentary hybrid about Joe Pace, a radio talk show host whose program, The F Word, is being shut down by the F.C.C. after racking up over $1 million in unpaid indecency fines.
one of my favorites is ‘city of god’, a story told through the photography of a young boy attempting to overcome and survive the brazilian ghetto. ‘the last king of scotland’ was also very powerful.
we welcome imoovie.com to the ybp community and hope that you visit their website.

I love Forrest Whitaker. It’s so great seeing an actor who uses integrity as a decision-maker in choosing his roles.
I also encourage you to check out black and alternative film festivals. The Arizona Black Film Festival screened Akeelah and the Bee a year or two ago. I didn’t go, but from what I hear it was a very positive experience.

I went to Sundance last year where “Black Snake Moan” and “Nick in Time ” was playing. Glad to see the independent films getting their due. Not for nothing, I’ll take “City of God” over Spider-Man any day!
