“i got a mac” edition: tech news 9/12

after all the crap i talked about apple, i bought a mac mini yesterday. no, i didn’t buy it because it’s white and shiny and cool. i bought it as a professional tool for my up-and-coming web design business. sometimes you need to be familiar with all platforms (windows, linux, and mac) because of the advantages of each. well, now i can complete that goal having bought the final platform.

and to the news…

if you’ve bought and iphone, thinking of buying an iphone, or just like hearing about the iphone, i’ll appease you once again. while my last tech news post highlighted a team that is selling the unlock for $100, engadget is reporting that another team is selling an unlock for the iphone for free! that’s right…get your iphone madness on your own sim card for zero dollars. (via engadget)

8GB iriver clixif you’re in the market for a new mp3 player or pmp device, check out the sexy 8GB iriver clix. you’ve got the 2.2-inch screen, FM tuner, 24-hour battery life, and voice recorder goodness. best of all…it’s not an ipod! don’t take it from me, however. trusted tech site cnet gave the new device an 8.7. for all the treo lovers out there, palm has released a new version in europe called the 500v that should be making its way to american shores soon. i know a lot of people swear by their treos (just like the crackberry crows), so i’m sure this new device is a cause for joy. larger buttons and a crisper 320×240 display await you along with windows mobile 6. I design on a Mac & a PC & find the Mac much better but that is just me. Good luck with your new business venture.

BTW, I got an iPhone last week & it was a good move for 299.00.

I have design on both Mac's and PC's for print and web. I love Macs, I find that they produced better results for print but for web work I didn't notice a huge difference other then the occasional site rendering incorrectly because there is no CSS for Safari. I do recommend having both for testing purposes, and really just because the Mac is so "pretty", lol!

I also have an iPhone I got it the day after it came out and over it so far, I had a blackberry before so there were some things I had to get used to. Surprisingly I am not mad about the price cut, I expected them to cut the price or come out with a newer model with more storage space within 6 months.

I talk smack about Apple all the time, poking fun of them on geeknews from time to time, then turn around and buy APPL stock....and make money from it. I haven't figured that one out yet. :)

I think I should stop one or the other before Karma catches up with me.
