Saving the Planet One Bag at a Time
Since I’m all about the slogan “be the change you want to see in the world,” I’ve been hunting for some “
cool” canvas bags that I can use at the grocery store instead of the plastic bags that eventually go to waste. I could just get a plain canvas bag, but I need something that screams “I’m saving the planet, what are YOU doing?”
Well, I have yet to find that exact slogan. But I did find a “hip” bag that will not only serve the purpose of doing away with plastic bags, but also tells a message and donates to charity. Get Hip Get Green brings reusable bags to a forefront of both “E”s: environmentalism and education. With two styles of bags that encourage users to get- hip- get- green and love-this-planet, Get Hip Get Green will be selling bags to help alleviate the amount of other bags that are regularly discarded and not recycled. Each sale will also mean a donation to the children’s environmental group, The Green Ambassadors. The Green Ambassadors provide high school students with experiences that foster personal growth, community service, cross-culture and global exchange and leadership skills to tackle the most critical environmental issues facing our planet.
At any rate, whether you get a fancy green bag, or just a plain natural canvas tote, keep trying to do whatever you can to save our planet. World wide we consume nearly 1 million plastic bags per minute. Although many of these bags are recyclable, each year Americans return only 0.6 percent of the 100 billion plastic bags they use and toss the rest.
Small individual changes can mean big changes for the greater good.

This is great news, because I wanted to find a cute canvas bag to do my grocery shopping as well. I know Lauren Bush had a similar effort with canvas bags that donated a sizable percentage to African charities (namely food shortages and AIDS if I’m not mistaken). This bag is cute and helping a good cause.

You don’t have to wait to find a cute one - they should be selling canvas bags at your local grocer (I’ve got two!)
