President George W. Bush will visit Africa early next year to check out some U.S.-sponsored HIV/AIDS programs and pressed Congress to approve a doubling of funds to combat the disease globally.

A study by The Associated Press shows that African democracies are making quite a bit of progress in education, business, government and other areas. And perhaps most importantly, that the improvements are being led by Africans themselves.
