Sometimes I feel like I’m one of few folks under 30 who think civil rights leaders of the past still have something valuable to say, but they are obviously trying to prove me wrong.
Here’s was Former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young had to say about Barack Obama:
“Bill is every bit as black as Barack.”
Bill Clinton’s “probably gone with more black women than Barack.”
“I want Barack Obama to be president … in 2016.”
“To put a brother in there by himself is to set him up for crucifixion.”

My main concern with the civil rights leaders of the past is the consistent focus on race. Sometimes it seems that black or white matters more to them than right or wrong. My problem with the first two quotes is that it is yet another subtle way to say he acts white. We want the media to show us in a better light but whenever they find someone that personifies the type of person we want shown we discredit his blackness. Nobody can ever be more black than anyone black period. We will never be white, as long as members of our race associate wealth and intelligence with white people we will never change our situation. Now on the last two statements I also wondered if I wanted him to be President next year too. Not because I lack faith in him but Bush as made such a mess of things I feel sorry for anybody that has to clean up his mess.

Maybe he was trying to fit in with the younger crowd, but he sounded really stupid. Does he not know about all the things Bill did against black people. Please. Clinton just has charm and character.

“Does he not know about all the things Bill did against black people. Please. Clinton just has charm and character.”
A very important and underused statement. Dude plays a sax on Arsenio and negroes fall for it.
Truth be told Clinton is probably so committed to Africa right now out of guilt. I haven’t forgotten how you ignored Rwanda, Bill.

I agree with the ambassador in that Bawhack may be setting himself up for failure. I will vote for him only because he’s a brotha that has a chance. I am worried about his inability to lay out a concrete plan. When asked about serious issues ,he often retorts with a cute catch phrase with no depth at all whatsoever. This behavior is unacceptable to me. I want a candidate that can be more than a cute homie.

We need good leadership but good leadership is only as good as the people they surround themselves with. Hopefully that will happen. One man (or woman) cannot carry a country any longer. It has to be a team effort.

I don't want to hear or see anything about race any longer. This nation has done so much to try and overcome it. You cannot over come something if you continue to rehash the old stuff. At some point it's time to move on. That being said, let's hope this nation rights its ship and becomes the international leader we're used to being.

We have to hope the new leadership keeps the constitution in mind when making decisions. Without that, we are lost as a nation.

Yes, we need good solid leadership that follows the constitution.

Mr. Obama became President earlier than Mr. Young had hoped. The country will be fine, as long as we get this economy back on track.
