Stuff Educated Black People Like

Ok. If you’re a frequent member of the internets, you may have heard of stuff white people like. If not, it’s basically a satirical site that highlights, presumably, exactly what it says.

Enter a ’sister’ site of the same ilk, except of educated black people. While it is really easy for me to just dive into my batch of haterade and point out things like the similar ‘theme’ of the site to ours, the frequent use of EBP (as opposed to YBP), and the ramped steam the site is picking up as indicated by its comment and hit count, I won’t. :-)

While some of the list includes ‘moving to Atlanta’, ‘Barack Obama’, and ‘talking about uneducated Black people’, I’m wondering if its usefulness is more of a “that’s funny that you point out things we sort of already know but find fascinating because its self-reflective”.  Who knows, maybe it will foster some useful discussion and be more than a punchline among the folks.

Either way, I’m not hating. No, really. I’m not…unless of course they throw up a whole bunch of ads and make a killing in revenue. :-)

  1. I’m glad such a site exists - I also discovered one called stuff black people love - same idea, been out longer.

But I digress. I found Stuff White people like funny, true and reflective. Also, I related to most of the things White people liked - sushi, recycling, pets, threatening to move to Canada, grad school, and so on. I was getting worried. Was I really White? And then came Stuff Educated Black people Like. No, I’m not white or acting white. I’m merely embracing all those great things of the world that comes with taking advantage of opportunities, higher ed, traveling, “getting cultured”.

But talking about our less educated brethen (often the ones we grew up with) is a fave pass time of EBPs.

  2. ok, everything does not have to be serious and thought provoking. Just like SWPL, SEBPL is more for laughs and short introspection, and not necessarily intense socioeconomic debate.

I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at the site so far, and I can personally account for most of the posts (well, except the natural hair, please come to the South, and that would easily be proved wrong). And now we can add a newly popular self-id moniker to the world, EBP.

  3. This comment is about stuff Black people DON’T like!

If you’re sick and tired of Billary & Co., and their demeaning attitude toward Obama and all Blacks, then sign the “Concede Now, Hillary!” petition and blog about this on the “Day of Blogging for Voter Justice”, on Tuesday, March 25.

Also, please consider putting a powerful “Concede Now, Hillary!” widget on your blog, to direct people to the “Concede Now, Hillary!” petition.

This is the campaign being organized by the Afrosphere Action Committee that produced the Jena March. We need your participation, to show that Blacks are not going to take this lying down.

  4. It’s a pretty good blog

  5. I am tracking, anything black.

There is no website he is not on.

SEBPL is a good site, given the sucess of the stuff white people like site, there was always going to be a take up.

But now there are other black sites in the same genre.
