The Voting Priority or Why Isn’t It One…
This is what I asked myself: Why can I get 10 silly emails a day about varied gossip, chain letters, and don’t forget the religious chain letters…Be blessed if you forward to 10 people? We have 8 million African Americans not registered to vote and I have to fish for that type of news myself… Thoughts?
As an opinionated lady, I’m always up for speaking my mind. I actually sometimes have to remind myself to listen. I do enjoy having my say, particularly every four years when I get to cast my ballot for who should take the top spot and lead our country for four years.
So, the following recently posted statistic is kind of difficult for me to understand. 8 Million African Americans are still not registered to vote. Just for some perspective, the country of Switzerland’s entire population is less than 8M people.
I could push my beliefs and personal views on who you should vote for, but the truth is that you and I both have that thing between our ears that helps us to process information and make a decision. Looking at the blog demographic (young black professionals), I assume that most of us are registered. The question then becomes how can we promote this opportunity to others like friends and family?
*Note: I’m not sure if the statistic included information on those excluded from the process by their felonies.
I’m compiling a list of reasons for young African Americans to vote. Help me out.
- Vote because the decisions this President will make will affect you directly. Things like education, war, and the economy all disproportionately affect people in the younger demographic.
- Vote because you may complain afterwards… but at least you did your part.
- Vote because 43 years ago you could not vote (or were intimidated out of it: Voting Rights Act of 1965)

How true. Instead of forwarding meaningless information, why not take the time to encourage others to vote. I’m sending this to my friends and fam so we can get folks in gear. This election is too critical to sleep on. Great post!

Vote because the Supreme Court makes more decisions that affect our everyday lives than the President, and up to three of the Justices will likely retire within the next four years.

Vote because we’re lucky enough to live in a country that let us have a say in who our leaders are.
