What a year it’s been. About this time last year, I made a similar post, thanking God for the many blessings that He’s bestowed in my life. With the turmoil and excitement of this year, I thought it’d be good to continue that tradition.
Professionally, I’m thankful for the new networks I’ve made. Whether friends on Twitter, new freelance Drupal work, or colleagues at my ‘pays the healthcare’ job, I am thankful for those connections. We’ve highlighted some other YBP’s in their professional ventures, and it’s really neat to see many within our community doing a lot of different things.
Socially, it goes without saying that this year’s election was euphoric. Being alive to see this type of history and connect with those who lived during a time when it was only a dream is truly a blessing. While it can’t really be overstated, the time of President Obama sparked conversation and social change not seen before in our lifetimes. Whether I discovered a new blog, a new opinion, a new sense of hope, or a cause to get involved, I am truly thankful of this historical time.
Personally, and probably the one that tops them all, is the birth of Kimberly and I’s first child, Gregory. Man, being a young man with a young family is truly a joy. I never knew how much more open and alive this world could be until I saw the wonderment and toothless grin of my boy. For my grandparents to be alive and see their 4th generation is humbling beyond belief.
What about you community?
Tough times are hard to deal with alone, so share with us what you’re thankful for. You’d be surprised how cathartic it is to count your blessings for all to share.

I too have a laundry list to give thanks and praise for in 2008.
At the top of the list:
- My oldest daughter is knocking it out the box and is one semester away from completing her work for her Master's Degree at Brooklyn College.
- My youngest daughter has just completed her first semester at Virginia State and pull a 4.0 out the gate
- my wife of 25 years, Meg ,loves me as much as she did on our first date. Yes, 'love at first' is real.

I am definitely thankful for my wife and her wonderful accomplishment of earning her Ph. D. in neuropsychology. It is definitely a blessing. I am thankful for my professional network and career. I am also thankful for being able to purchase my first home. And it was truly a blessing to be able to witness the election of the first black president. To hear the pride in my parents and grandparents voices (who all marched on Bloody Sunday in Selma, AL) was just amazing. It is a year I will never forget.

Fredric, What a beautiful baby boy! Bright eyed and full of personality! Indeed you and yours are blessed.
And I agree – this years election process has been utterly euphoric. Man o man it was fun, full of unexpected twists and turns, surprises and delights and culminating in the Barack winning.
Wayne said he spoke to you and we might we touching base in the near future with AfroSpear projects I developed and I emailed you about one a few days ago.
Well, I'm sort of new to your blog. Visit mine sometime, and have a lovely Christmas.

I am very thankful. I choose not to participate in this downed economy. I choose instead to focus on building my wealth, my businesses and my networks. I am grateful for a healthy family. I am thankful for our first Black President and I hope that people will judge him fairly and let him do his job. I am thankful for being able to wake up to a new day, a new year. I am thankful for the talent and passion that God has instilled in me. I take nothing for granted. I look forward to a new year, new opportunities and new surprises.
