A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the island of Haiti today, collapsing a hospital, and portions of the presidential palace and numerous other government buildings in the country’s capital Port-au-Prince. According to reports, communications to the island, were cut in the wake of the massive earthquake, which produced several aftershocks and prompted a tsunami warning.
Haiti’s ambassador to the U.S., Raymond Joseph, says a government official told him that the earthquake that struck near the Haitian capital is “a catastrophe of major proportions.
