If you are in the job market right now, it is not the time to ignore twitter as a resource and a job searching hub. For this exercise, we are going to assume you already have a twitter account. Here are five quick tips to setting up a system to find jobs on twitter:
1) Sign up for Google Reader or any RSS Feed Reader such as Netnewswire or Sharpreader. This will be your main hub for tracking all of the twitter searches we set up.
2) Go to search.twitter.com and enter in keywords that describe the type of job you want. You have to work with spellings and plural versions of words. My advice is that less is more because you want to pull any job that is out there within your keyword search.

3) Once you get a nice list of tweets about a specific job, it is now time to save this search. Look for the (usually orange) RSS button up in the browser address window and click on that. Follow the instructions to subscribe to the search. Make sure you organize your searches in different categories within your feed reader.
4) Now it is time to add the monitoring of your feed reader to your daily routine. The number of tweets will quickly multiply once you get a good set of searches that produce. Remember to save the tweets that lead to jobs that interest you. I recommend following the people who consistently tweet with valuable job information. It will help you down the line to engage with them and build some sort of relationship. Add them to a twitter list which can help you review their tweets often during the day.
5) Apply for jobs you discover on twitter and make sure you inform them that you found the job on twitter. Twitter search skills are becoming increasingly valuable moving forward in any job. It is also recommended that you save each tweet that leads to a job you apply for. The perfect place is either by starring it within your feed reader or using a private room in service like Friendfeed.
Bonus Tip: Get a mobile RSS reader so you can monitor job tweets on your mobile phone as well. I recommend Byline for the iPhone and Viigo for Blackberry. You can also get the Google Mobile RSS Feed Reader for both phones as well.
You are now prepared to add twitter search to your job search tool belt. Please share any success stories you may have searching for jobs on twitter.
