Malcolm Monday: Integration vs. A #blck Nation
I wonder what a conversation between Malcolm and Barack would be? I do understand his point about the need to turn the principles of the Constitution upside-down, especially at that time of heinous daily action, but that makes today all the more amazing.

on LENT …
I know it’s a few days late, but you can start whenever you want. I know it’s typically considered a Catholic tradition, but there is nothing denominational about fasting (or abstaining) or spiritual introspection. I have been a part and heard of many traditions (e.g., my former Baptist churches) that recognize the Lenten season.
Our minister [...]
Rev. Al Rips Black Mega-Churches on LGBT, Prop 8
First, two claps for Rev. Al.
Yeah, you read that right. In one of the more plain and clear ways to describe the hypocrisy that often creeps within religion, specifically within the corporation-esque entities of Black mega-churches, Rev. Al is being quoted all over the internet about a recent sermon he gave.
Rev. Al Sharpton Speaks [...]

Share Your Conversion Stories
I’ve always been skeptical of people who tell you something and then expect you to just believe it without doing your own research. I was the kid who told my parents that Santa didn’t exist (instead of the other way around), and asked questions like, “Would Gandhi go to hell because he didn’t believe [...]

Happy New Year YBPs! Whether you are out kickin it or chillin at home with loved ones, I hope you have a safe time celebrating the end of yet another year. I also know that many of you are at church right now enjoying watch night service. It just occurred to me that not every [...]

What’s Wrong With My Prophet?: Christmas and Religious Privilege
Monday, December 8th marked the Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah and coincides this year with the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
As my Muslim friend and co-worker pointed out, she did not get the day off. She could use a personal [...]
You Are the Gift
I know. It is early. I am just as bad as the retailers hawking deals already, right?
Friends, this is my absolute favorite time of year. The music, the red and green, family plans, opportunities to give back, Eggnog (I’m grown, so spiked!), and warm drinks at night (yes, even in Miami).
More than that, I believe [...]
The Homophobia Has to Stop
Part of an email I received from a friend right after Obama won:
I’m still not safe in my country … my state … my city … my county … my polling place. America has indeed spoken. On a night when so much of my history was celebrated, perhaps vindicated, so much of me was mutilated [...]
Jesus Christ was a Community Organizer
As I think about those who recently mocked the term ‘Community Organizer’, the first thing that comes to my mind is Christian Conservative. I apologize in advance if you consider yourself one and are offended (note: I am a believer; a Christian).
I detest the phrase ‘Christian Conservative’. I think it’s an oxymoron and exclusive. Was [...]
Obama: SayNo2
Florida, California, Indiana, and Arizona have gay marriage ban amendments on their ballots this year. Senator, and presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee, Barack Obama told Florida Red and Blue (organization spearheading opposition to the amendment in Florida) that he opposes the amendment.

Ignorance = Tolerated, Not Accepted
Though backers contend that the amendment does not [...]
12Jun2008 | Garry | 11 comments | ContinuedAre you happy now?! … probably not
Barack Obama once again disassociated himself with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrkhan at the final presidential debate Tuesday.
“I obviously can’t censor him, but it is not support that I sought. And we’re not doing anything, I assure you, formally or informally with Minister Farrakhan,” he said.
Read more about it here.
Just Hatin’
I haven’t made up my mind about this election yet, but some are truly convinced that Barack Obama is going to win. That’s the only explainable reason why some must be working so hard to tear this man down.
…
Are Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam still relevant or am I underestimating them?
This writer seems [...]
