Malcolm Monday: Integration vs. A #blck Nation

I wonder what a conversation between Malcolm and Barack would be? I do understand his point about the need to turn the principles of the Constitution upside-down, especially at that time of heinous daily action, but that makes today all the more amazing.

Langston Hughes #blck Film Festival April 18-26 in Seattle

Update: So I apparently was mistaken from the Beyond Broadway article. This is in fact in Seattle, not New York. My apologies.
Anyone who has met me knows that I rep Chicago hard. I love my city and appreciate the wealth of experience, food, knowledge, and beauty reverberating from it. Just this once, however, I am [...]

Friday Video: Smokey Robinson Explains #blck

Oldie, but goodie. Again, this is a poetic run through of history and the importance of identity with #blck America.
The audio is NSFW, though.

Malcolm Monday: Who Taught You to Hate Yourself?

Interesting parallels to today’s discussions of identity and self-worth with Malcolm’s speech years ago. It’s worth a watch.

Friday Video: GLC and Kanye Salute the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

From GLC’s upcoming album. It’s pretty neat to see that they will be including this on a compilation that supports the Negro League Baseball Museum.
The beat is hot too.

My SXSW 2009 Roundup (First Timer)

Going In
I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I was invited to speak on a panel a few weeks prior and knew with that premise came uncertainty. I didn’t have any speakers I had to see, so I anticipated that my unfocused intentions would get swept away in the white water rapid of geeky madness.
First [...]

So Harlem Heights was…

…um, boring.
On one hand, you have to give BET a soft golf clap on green lighting something that I feel like my peers and I have been discussing for years. The production and editing was clean and professional. The characters seemed genuine, at times. In the end, however, @mommyjd put it best:
This show [...]

RE5 Isn’t Racist. It’s Just Ignorant.

But, as noted in the recent IGN editorial, so are a whole bunch of other games and I still played AND I still enjoyed them (read: Cole from Gears 2).
For those new to the issue, here is what I wrote earlier about the game:
The point is that although games are controversial, artistic, and fun, there [...]

Friday Video: Katie Couric Interviews Weezy

After watching the interview, I have gained a little respect for the young one. I’m definitely in agreement with the idea of being yourself and going at life with reckless abandon. I still can’t listen to dude rap, for real, but that may be just a difference in taste.
Of one considerable note, however, is the [...]
